In April 2026, Apollo became our first product registered with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) as a Class I medical device: technology that gives clinicians an objective measure of the symptoms of depression and anxiety, and the first to do it from voice alone.

Voice is the most intuitive way we communicate, and is becoming, at unprecedented pace, the main way we interact with machines. It is already in the call centre, the car, the clinic, the living room. How we speak carries the state of our body and mind, a signal that until now was unreadable. That gap is a vast amount of unrealised value, and a human cost that is easy to overlook.

For us, this has always been personal. Our CEO and co-founder, Emilia Molimpakis, knows that cost first-hand. While completing their PhDs, she watched her best friend develop depression, slowly but surely, with no one realising how bad things were until it was almost too late. The signs were there in their voice the whole time, not hidden, only unread. So often a person says "I'm fine" while their voice says otherwise. That is why we set out to build technology that understands the human behind the words, robustly and at scale, for a world where every conversation is understood, and every person gets the care they need.

thymia Apollo turns the signals in a voice into an objective, standardised measure of depression and anxiety in adults, one a clinician can break down symptom by symptom, on the scales they already use. Behind it is robust engineering and thousands of datapoints analysed by our models: our methodology is peer-reviewed and published in Nature Scientific Reports, and our dataset is the largest of its kind, more than 100,000 unique voices measured over time, amongst other types of data.

In each of those voices we identify neural morphemes®, the smallest units of sound that carry biological information, which combine in infinite ways to give rise to voice biomarkers: measurable indicators of the state of body and mind. The same technology generalises beyond mental health, into other health signals such as wellbeing and physical health.

Mental health has been hard to measure for decades, and what goes unmeasured too often goes unmet. A clearer signal and earlier detection, from a technology with the right guardrails around it, help clinicians act while it counts. Apollo answers to a regulator for as long as it is in use, is built to independently certified standards, and handles personal data in line with GDPR and HIPAA, protecting the people behind every voice. It is a tool that supports a clinician's judgement.

Apollo's registration builds on years of groundwork: a peer-reviewed methodology, a dataset grown voice by voice, and certified standards, from ISO 13485:2016 for our quality management system (QMS) to ISO 27001:2022 and Cyber Essentials for information security. And Apollo is part of a family. Alongside it, Helios puts the same science to work across more than thirty states and conditions, from early warning signs like stress and fatigue to signals of physical health.
